getting ready for the party

posted in Robert Wilson news Blog

Hey Gang,

How’s everybody holding up?

I’ve been a stress case for the past few weeks. Getting ready for the release party has been a lot of work and involved a lot of planning.

I have a huge chalk board in my hallway. It’s like 14 feet long. Last week I had it completely covered with things that I had to do. Call these people; send CD’s to those people; buy this, go there. I was getting a bit panicky. Like, “how am I ever gonna get all this done?”

My Mom has been doing a lot of work to help; she’s been tracking down some sponsorship for the gig. I was sitting there looking at this huge list and my mom calls to tell me we’ve got a cheese sponsor. The Little Qualicum Cheese Company. So I went over to the chalkboard and wrote down CHEESE and put a line through it. I was thinking well at least we know we’ll have cheese. I don’t know if we’ll have a stage but we’ll definitely have cheese! That was the first thing I checked off, since then I’ve made my way through about 90% of the list, and I’m feeling pretty good about the state of affairs.

I’ve had a couple rehearsals with the band this week and I’m really looking forward to playing the show now. There’s going to be 8 of us on stage that night. For a guy who’s used to playing solo it’s like having my own musical army. These cats are sounding great. When you see them on Thursday, buy them a drink and let them know how great they are.

I’ve been hearing from all kinds of people who are coming to the release party. These things are a bit like weddings. I’ve got people from all sides of my life coming out. Old high school friends, musicians I’ve known forever. Old bosses, distant cousins, friends from my summer camp days, a bunch of ex-girlfriends. It’s a bit spooky if I start to think about it.

My little cousin Ben, who’s like my little brother will be opening the show on the 17th. He’s 23 and working his ass off to become a good singer / songwriter. I tried to warn him off the whole idea but he seems set on it. Come down to the show early enough to check him out. I’ll be standing at the side of the stage beaming like a proud mother. Some of you will recognize Ben; he’s the cute guy who’s been selling CDs for me at my shows for years.

All right all of ya’ll, I look forward to seeing all of you soon. Till then here’s a question for you.

Let me know what kind of music you’re all listening to? Who’s in the disc player these days?
